Mortal Kombat X - a new main Kombatant, that of the rarely-seen but fearsome female ninja Sheeva, who has been provided an all-new look in Mortal Kombat X. "She was originally going to be a male ninja," says Mortal Kombat Creative Director Ed Boon. "But during design discussions we realized there was no need for him." The upcoming edition also includes improved gameplay and new moves including the deadly-looking air juggle combo. Mortal Kombat X is the eleventh installment in the Mortal Kombat series and a sequel to 2011's Mortal Kombat. It was developed by NetherRealm Studios, published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, distributed by High Voltage Software for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in April 2015, and releasing in Japan in June 2015 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is intended to be darker than its predecessor in both tone and graphics with more emphasis on player choice that allows players to customize the characters' combos and special moves. Mortal Kombat X was released worldwide for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 14, 2015. A Microsoft Windows version of the game was released on July 24th, 2015. In addition, a special edition of the game was released on April 15th, 2015 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This version of the game also had a Collector's Edition release for pre-order customers on April 28th, 2015. The PC version is a port of the Windows version. Gameplay options include graphics quality settings and texture resolutions to an apparent 10x difference in high resolution displays, with 16:9 aspect ratios instead of pop-up menus to adjust them on-the-fly. The Mac port has been delayed from August 2015 to October 2015 while development is completed. In June 2014, "Mortal Kombat X" launched as an early access title on Steam for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Unlike the console versions, this version does not support cross-platform play with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 releases. The game was eventually released on September 15th, 2015. When the game was first announced in mid-2014, there were reports of a high level of similarity between it and NetherRealm Studios' previous "Injustice: Gods Among Us" title for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in terms of gameplay and visuals. In response to this concern, Ed Boon stated that "Mortal Kombat X" "is really looking to take everything we learned from our last title and applying it to a brand new engine. It's something we're really proud of and think the fans are going to love" and that they "know what worked in "Injustice: Gods Among Us" and what didn't, and we're applying those lessons to "Mortal Kombat X"." The game was met with positive reviews upon release. Aggregating review websites GameRankings and Metacritic gave the Microsoft Windows version 74.46% based on 37 reviews and 73/100 based on 55 reviews, the PlayStation 4 version 73.88% based on 42 reviews and 73/100 based on 40 reviews, the PlayStation 3 version 71.95% based on 10 reviews and 73/100 based on 16 reviews, the Xbox One version 69. cfa1e77820
